Happyboy prepares for his speech to his Generals.

X65 Vorak Resolution

[G-F #15: Hell's Burning Ambition]

At his castle, Happyboy gloats that the next twenty-four hours will change the Earth forever! Vax appears. He has apparently been forgiven for his brazen attempt to impress Cybercon in the previous episode. Vax informs Happyboy that all of his Scorpius Force Generals are assembled in the Meeting Room to hear his new strategy. It will shock everyone! Vax tentatively asks if Cybercon has okayed this.

“What Cybercon has to say is between myself and him. With our recent losses, he has become impatient with our results.” Happyboy sneered.

“I was asking merely to cover our bases, Sire.” Vax replies smoothly. I guess Vax still has bigger aspirations!

“This is not a casual whim!” Happyboy rants.

“Right! With our location known, it’s just a matter of time before the Eagle Riders waltz in and blow our entire headquarters sky high.” Vax points out. “For us, there’s no other alternative but to move our headquarters completely.”

“It’s either that, or eliminate them.” Happyboy agrees. He enters the meeting room for Vax’s obsequious presentation.

“It is my great honor to give you a leader that needs no introduction.” Vax begins, but then proceeds with the introduction anyhow. “Where evil exists, you will find him. I give you a true tyrant who will lead us and force humans to obey the will of the Scorpius Force!” With friends like Vax, who needs enemies?

Of course, Happyboy has enemies, and he knows it. He reminds the Generals that they have suffered devastating losses at the hands of the Eagle Riders and their Earth allies. The Scorpius Force needs to temporarily withdraw.

They need time to accomplish this, so the Generals must create a diversion. With the Eagle Riders occupied, they can move their headquarters with no interference. The Generals agree to do this, cheering Happyboy on.

A giant Centipede-with-a-Beak robot towers over Happyboy’s castle, attacking a series of tanks. The Ultra Eagle 5 hits the Centipede in the face and it falls backward, landing on the castle walls. A secret timer inside the castle counts down to zero, and then the castle explodes, Vorak androids running in panic. The tanks are destroyed in the explosion.

“Hopefully that’s the last of Happyboy.” Hunter mutters.

But Happyboy is in a secret underground room, laughing that the Eagle Riders think he has truly been defeated.

“You’d think they’d remember, I’m full of surprises!” Happyboy cackles. He recalls when he sent his Happyboy android to battle Hunter and the Eagle Rider Leader ended up ranting and screaming in defeat in the castle courtyard while Joe dragged him off. That was a good day for Happyboy.

A young boy dressed in some kind of Scout uniform walks into Happyboy’s chamber.

“Sir, Cybercon sends his regards!” the boy says. When Happyboy demands to know the boy’s identity, and he replies that he is Justin Powers, the youngest Captain of the Scorpius Force.

“Cybercon indoctrinated me into your way of thinking and he sent me to do a checkup!” the boy reveals. Happyboy clearly has a hard time swallowing this one, because he asks, “If Cybercon really wants to know what’s going on, why doesn’t he just do a checkup himself?”

“Good question.” Justin responds. “He’s had his eye on your situation and now believes it’s time to bring in some new blood to support our objectives. And Cybercon assigned me the mission of making sure the Eagle Riders are taken out of action by our new robot, right now.” Happyboy is completely taken aback by this and can only yell at the boy to stop as Justin runs off.

“So Cybercon thinks I need this pint-sized punk to succeed!” Happyboy sneers. But Cybercon appears, telling Happyboy that he has squandered the opportunities he has been given, and pulling Happyboy inside of him for a ‘serious in-depth discussion’. Cybercon tells Happyboy that his Earth losses have eroded Vorak troop numbers and morale. He reviews many of Happyboy’s past failures.

Cybercon shows Happyboy a picture of Lukkan. Happyboy doesn’t remember Lukkan (even though Lukkan was his… uh, Mallanox’s… father), but Cybercon reminds him. Apparently Lukkan lured the Eagle Riders to Cybercon so that they could be destroyed. But then Lukkan and Cybercon argued about who would have the honor of defeating the Eagle Riders. Cybercon reminded Lukkan that he could destroy him, and punctuated this with a massive explosion. Cybercon left, shouting that he would destroy everyone. Lukkan relented, begging Cybercon to take Lukkan with him, but Cybercon did not listen.

Hunter attempted to take Lukkan with them, but the base had been rigged to explode any minute, and the Eagle Riders had to get away immediately.

“When we had a disagreement, Cybercon deserted me! I’ve been wronged! I’ve been shamed and dishonored!” Lukkan cried. “Leave me, Eagle Riders! I will not have the pity of my enemies!”

Cybercon reminds Happyboy that this wasn’t the only time his orders were ignored, bringing up an example from Happyboy’s past as Mallanox, when Mallanox attempted to retrieve a radar from the ISO building as a giant tidal wave approached.

“Thankfully, your abilities have improved as time has passed.” admits Cybercon. He asks about the Vorak relocation. Happyboy says that it is going well, and that the Eagle Riders believe that Happyboy and the Vorak Forces were destroyed when the old headquarters blew up. Cybercon’s plan is to have Justin keep the Eagle Riders occupied while Happyboy leads everyone else to the new base.

“He wants me to play the ‘taxi’, shuttling Vorak, while his new protege Justin takes on the Eagle Riders and steals all the glory!” Happyboy thinks. “Not while I’m here!” he vows silently. Happyboy tells Cybercon that he has to help Justin, and Cybercon admits that the Vorak can take care of themselves during this move. But Cybercon reminds Happyboy that Justin will be in command. Apparently Justin has been ‘programmed for success’.

Happyboy walks onto the robot and into the Control Center. Justin is already there and he tells Happyboy to take a seat.

“I won’t have you endangering this mission’s complete success!” Justin whines. “Any insubordination and you won’t be onboard for long. Get me?” the boy threatens.

“I will obey your every command, Justin.” Happyboy promises. “The only thing I care about is seeing to it that we crush the Eagle Riders.” Justin grins upon hearing these words.

“Now that that’s squared away, take your seat, and this robot will start to rumble.” Justin says, as Happyboy thinks that Justin has no idea what the blue one is capable of.

At Gateway 2, the Eagle Riders take off in their individual vehicles. There is a giant robot tearing up Jet City and they are out to stop it.

“For the Global Good!” the Eagle Riders cheer in unison.

The new robot (which looks like a 4-legged upright-walking Grasshopper) is storming through Jet City when the Eagle Riders arrive and unite to form the Ultra Eagle 5 and initiate Delta Power. Hunter zooms in on the viewscreen and realizes that it is just a boy manning the controls. The Grasshopper robot’s interior opens up, sending out some jet fighter planes. This doesn’t stop Hunter from jettisoning the Super Hawk and pulling out his Phase Foil. Hunter destroys a couple of the planes and leaps onto another, cutting through it with the Phase Foil before leaping back to his vehicle and destroying the last one. Hunter then makes his way to the robot.

Happyboy yells at Justin to take evasive action, but Justin cannot, and the robot falls to the might of the Phase Foil. The Eagle Riders land, and they walk out to meet Justin, who is lying on the ground next to a supposedly hurt Happyboy and the robot’s wreckage. Strangely, none of the Eagle Riders are surprised to see Happyboy there, even though they thought they had killed him earlier in the episode.

“Are you okay?” Hunter asks Justin politely.

“Don’t any of you move!” Justin shouts, pulling out a gun and pointing it at them. The Eagle Riders are surprised by this turn of events.

“Hey, don’t go pointing that laser pistol at us. Somebody could get really hurt!” Ollie lectures Justin.

“That’s exactly what’s going to happen now, because you meddlers are going to pay dearly for wrecking Cybercon’s robots and for hurting the Commander!” Justin shouts.

“You need to think about this. Are you absolutely sure you want to be on the side of Evil?” Hunter asks.

“Happyboy must have figured out some way to brainwash this wild kid.” Joe observes. “Why else would anyone turn against all humans?”

Justin gasps. Apparently he didn’t know that Cybercon hates humans.

“You have to know that Cybercon’s goal is to capture all human beings and destroy our planet, which would make all of us homeless slaves of the Vorak!” Hunter rants. Hunter decides to drive the knife in a little deeper. “Do you really hate humanity so much that you want that all to happen?” Hunter asks.

“They really don’t care about what happens here. They’re using you to promote their agenda and they’ll discard you like a pawn when their purpose has been served.” Hunter insists. Justin is apparently having a hard time hearing this. Cybercon’s indoctrination must have been a little rushed. The only response he can come up with is, ‘I don’t believe you!’

At that moment, Happyboy ‘wakes up’ and opens a hidden panel in the ground. He jumps inside, leaving Justin behind to the mercy of the Eagle Riders.

“We needed to stop him. We should have kept a closer eye on him!” Hunter berates himself.

“This can’t be true! He promised to take me along with him when we had to escape!” Justin moans.

Unaware of (or perhaps aware and enjoying) the whining he has caused, Happyboy lands on yet another Vorak underground train, joining Vax and Olaf.

“It’s good that we had this rescue pre-planned, but I thought you would be bringing Justin with you!” Vax observes.

“Why should he? Human beings are absolutely worthless to us!” Olaf counters.

“I know Cybercon will be disappointed, but poor Justin and I had a little ‘falling out’ when I left him holding the proverbial bag.” Happyboy laughs. The train track and Happyboy’s old castle explode behind the train as it leaves.

“Happyboy couldn’t have escaped that.” murmurs Hunter as he observes the destruction of the castle. Wait a minute… didn’t Happyboy’s castle get destroyed earlier this episode?  How many castles does Happyboy have, anyway?

Meanwhile Justin is upset that he put his faith in Happyboy, only to be abandoned and betrayed by him. Hunter tells Justin that he doesn’t belong with the Vorak. He belongs with other humans, ‘trying to make this planet a place of peace and understanding’. Justin apparently sees the light and realizes that he does belong with humans.

As they near the new Vorak headquarters, Happyboy feels triumphant. He has dumped Cybercon’s ‘Golden Boy’, making himself Cybercon’s champion again. The Eagle Riders think he is gone. The future looks bright. The Vorak arrive at their new stronghold, and Happyboy declares that the Vorak will be victorious.

Happyboy’s old castle has been meticulously recreated. It is perfect. Happyboy listens to a record, using an old-fashioned Victrola (as if records aren’t old-fashioned enough all by themselves). He walks out onto the balcony, to address his ‘faithful force’.

“We will now conquer Earth. Are you ready?” Happyboy asks, to a response of loud cheering from his men.

What will become of the Global Good? We may never know, as this is where the series ends.
