Hunter flies out to his Flight School Class Reunion.

X6 Old Friends, New Enemies
[G-II #21: Broken Wings of Youth]
Hunter is invited to a class reunion for his old flight school. He has mixed feelings about going, because of his old friends Lisa (who bears a strange resemblance to Kelly) and Karl. It seems that Hunter and Lisa had been romantically involved when Karl stole Hunter’s girl away from him. Lisa and Karl are now engaged to be married, and Hunter wonders how he will feel seeing Lisa again.
To rub salt in the wound for Hunter, Karl has become very successful, developing the Magma Generator, which is a very powerful weapon. He lives on a private estate guarded by his own troops, and is hosting the reunion. Karl meets Hunter in the air, prompting them into a one-upmanship demonstration of their flying skills, which of course, Hunter wins, because Hunter is the hero after all, even if he didn’t get the girl.
Once on the ground, Hunter asks Karl why he would do something so stupid. If it was stupid, why did you participate, Hunter? Hunter accuses Karl of hating him because Hunter was the top pilot in their class. Talk about a macho ego! Lisa breaks up the testosterone-filled discussion before the two men come to blows.
During the reunion, Lisa and Hunter talk, and Lisa reveals that she’s had some horrible dreams about her and Karl dying. She brushes them off, but Hunter is suspicious. That night, Hunter breaks into Karl’s office, looking for evidence of Karl’s strange behavior. Wow, that’s quite a step. It never occurred to Hunter that Karl might just be jealous and insecure?
Lisa catches Hunter in his illicit activities, and is disappointed to see Hunter sneaking around. Lisa seems like a nice girl. What’s she doing mixed up with Karl?
But as Lisa is lecturing Hunter, she accidentally presses on a bookcase, revealing a secret passage. Despite her earlier words, Lisa quickly joins Hunter as he explores the passage, and they both arrive just in time to hear Karl describing his ‘plan’ to his troops. Karl has joined with the Vorak to conquer the Earth. Looks like Hunter’s hunch was right!
Hunter and Lisa are discovered, and Lisa rejects Karl for this betrayal of their species. Mallanox arrives, intending to kill Karl, but he escapes, and is not heard from again. It’s made clear that he doesn’t die; yet he has mysteriously disappeared. Hmm….
Hunter saves Lisa, then transforms and goes after Mallanox, leaving Lisa behind inside a Vorak vase, completely unprotected. I’m starting to see why she dumped him.
Hunter single-handedly destroys the base underneath Karl’s home (not seeming to be too worried if Lisa is still in it or not), but literally lets Mallanox slip through his grasp. At least the crisis is over.
Afterward, with Karl having disappeared, Hunter and Lisa talk on a bridge. Lisa says that despite Hunter’s heroics, she could never be with Hunter, because she senses he has too many secrets, and that would come between them. Wow, she’s a bright girl. Perhaps she truly doesn’t belong with Hunter.
Hunter reluctantly admits she is right and returns home, alone and heartbroken. Don't worry, Hunter, I'm sure there's a warm Dove who would be more than happy to keep you company...
